Dorothy E. Marks

HART, MI - Dorothy E. Marks, 97 years old, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the home of her son in Hart, MI. She was born in the Dunkard Valley, Springfield Township, York County, PA on April 2, 1924. She was the third child of Norman E. and Elsie E. (Godfrey) Keeney. She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings - Marguerite, Elva, Kenneth, Laverne, Norman Jr. and three great grandchildren. On April 7, 1945 she married Melvin F. Marks who passed away Dec. 24, 1968. Surviving are four children, Ronald (Nancy) Hart, MI, Marian (Stanley) Primeau York, PA, Marvin (Wanda) Montrose, CO and Melvin (Barbara) Airville, PA. There are 27 grandchildren, 65 great- grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren - leaving over 100 physical descendants, besides many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Norma Jean Keeney. For 46 years she lived on the farm in North Hopewell Twp. where the family was raised. She then moved to a new house on the property. In August of 2020 she moved to Michigan. As the last original vendor of the New Eastern Market, she retired in 2015 at 91 but continued to do some baking for 5 more years. She was well known for her angel food cakes, pies and bread. Surrounded by her family, she had a peaceful passing to meet her Savior two days before the 100th anniversary of her husband's birth. A viewing will be held at the Shrewsbury Dunkard Brethren Church, 216 N. Main Street, Shrewsbury on Friday, Feb. 4, 2022 from 6-9:00 P.M. and 10-11:00 AM Saturday, Feb. 5th with a funeral service following. Interment is in the adjoining graveyard. Her wishes are that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the cemetery fund of which Marlin Marks is treasurer.
