TROY - Dorothy (Brown) Cooke, Age 96, of Prospect Street, Troy, PA passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at home. Dorothy was born December 15, 1914 in Lake Ariel, PA daughter of the late Leon and Emma (Douse) Brown. She moved to the Troy area in the summer of 1930. She was a graduate of Troy High School and continued her studies in New York City earning an Associate’s Degree. She was one of the first persons who assisted Martha Lloyd in developing and operating her enterprise in Troy. Dorothy in her 96th year was well informed and articulate in relating to events, which transpired nearly three-quarters ago. It was at age 14 Dorothy came to Troy with her Aunt Mattie (Martha) Lloyd. Dorothy was married to the late Arland B. Cooke on June 12, 1940. Mr. Cooke passed away on June 30 1984. She was a member of the Troy United Methodist Church for over 60 years, Order of Eastern Star, Thursday Study Club and Bridge Club. Dorothy enjoyed flowers and found great joy in sending greeting, birthday and holiday cards to family and friends on these special occasions. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff & Judy Cooke of Queensland, Australia, Jim & Willa Cooke of Crofton, MD, grandchildren, Christopher & Victoria Cooke of Lancaster, CA, Jamie Tighe of Rockyview, Australia, Katie & Michael Scherer of MD, Sherry Cooke of MD, Alexandria Cooke of MD, Carolina Cooke of MD, great-grandchildren, Alannah Tighe and Natalie Tighe both of Australia and Iris Scherer of MD, several nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents and husband her brothers Weldon Brown and Harold Brown and two sisters, Alta and Gertrude, predeceased Dorothy. Family and friends are invited to call from 12 PM to 2 PM Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. Dorothy’s service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 2 PM with Reverend Rich Noggle officiating. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials are directed to the American Heart Association, 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17041.
