Dorothea G. 'Jerre' Cubler

POTTSVILLE-Dorothes G. Jerre Cubler, 91, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Sunday morning peacefully at home. Born in Palmerton, PA, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Anna Otrosina Hoiden. Jerre was a graduate of Girls High School and the Episcopal School of Nursing, both of Philadelphia. She was a former bookkeeper for Sears and Roebuck Co., Philadelphia. Jerre was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven. She was an active member, volunteer and past president of the former Pottsville Hospital auxilary and served as its membership chairwoman for several years. She was always actively involved in the annual Pottsville Hospital school of nursing graduation reception and the annual Charity Ball. Jerrie loved gardening in the spring and summer and crocheting in the fall and winter. Many of her afghans won awards at the Schuylkill County Fair. She also had a love for all animals, large and small. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Hoiden. Jerre is survived by her husband, Dr. Edward W. Cubler, Schuylkill Haven, to whom she was married 66 years; she was a devoted mother to her three daughters, Dorothea Ann Sitkus, New Hope, PA, Bonnie Julian, of Schuylkill Haven, and Amy J. Goodman, wife of David, of Doyelstown, PA; a loving grandmother of Andrew Goodman. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., Pottsville is in charge of arrangements. The family would prefer contributions be given to Hillside SPCA, Hillside Road, Pottsville, PA 17901, or Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 252 Dock Street, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.
