Doris L. (Wertz) Baker

WARMINSTER, PA – Doris L. (Wertz) Baker, 94, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 27, 2013 at Christ’s Home Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late J. Harry Baker, Sr. to whom she was married for 54 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with her son, The Rev. Carl A. Baker officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11:00 AM Saturday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mummert’s Meeting House Cemetery, East Berlin. Born April 12, 1919 in York a daughter of the late Paul and Manerva (Worley) Wertz, she had lived many years of her later life in Nanticoke, PA where she and her husband were actively involved in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Mrs. Baker enjoyed baking and cooking and was famous among family and friends for her yummy desserts and delicious meals. While living at Christ’s Home Community she enjoyed participating in group crossword puzzles and sing-alongs. Mrs. Baker is survived by a daughter, Carol A. and husband Ronald Hamilton of Quakertown; two sons, Rev. Carl A. and wife Donna Baker of Martinsburg, WV and John H. Baker, Jr. and wife Virginia of Hatboro; five grandchildren, Andrew and wife Lynda Baker, Emily and husband Juan Kononovas, Jeffrey and wife Karis Baker, Matthew Baker, and Jessica Baker; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Victor Wertz; and two sisters, Dorothy Gibbs and Helen Roberts.
