Doris L. Bower

HARRISBURG – Doris L. (Comrey) Bower, 80, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Harrisburg Hospital. She was the wife of the late Charles B. Bower. Born January 14, 1939 in Harrisburg, a daughter of the late William and Sara (Blessing) Comrey; she was a graduate of William Penn Senior High School. Mrs. Bower had worked for the Harrisburg School District as a young adult, but later worked and retired from PA Dept. of Transportation. Doris was an active and dedicated member of 29th Street United Methodist Church where she participated as an usher and attended many women’s retreats. Mrs. Bower is survived by a daughter, Margaret E. and husband Ronald Hancock of Lewisberry; two grandchildren, Chrisitan C. and Emily M. Hancock; two stepsons, Charles R. Bower of Delaware and Drew Bower of Dauphin; a stepdaughter, Linda Morgan of Dauphin; a sister, Darlene Reed of Camp Hill; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Hal, George, Richard and William Comrey; and two sisters, Sara Fisher and Lois Beaver. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Home For Children, 5120 Simpson Ferry Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Baughman United Methodist Church, 228 Bridge Street, New Cumberland with Rev. Deborah Port officiating. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Thursday at the Church. Beaver Urich Funeral Home, Inc., 305 West Front Street, Lewisberry is in charge of arrangements.
