DOVER – Doris E. (Ott) Smith, 79, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Harold J. “Joe” Smith. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. A viewing will be held from 7-9:00 PM Friday at the Funeral Chapel. Born May 19, 1934 in York a daughter of the late Clarence E. and Pauline E. (Bupp) Ott, she had worked for Sylvania Co. as a young adult. Mrs. Smith was an active member at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church where she was instrumental in opening and staffing the Church kitchen for banquets and dinners. She was a member of Shiloh American Legion Post 791 Ladies Aux., and was a Jefferson Award Nominee for her work with York’s Helping Hands. In her late teen years Doris was a racecar driver competing in the Powder Puff Division at local tracks. Her love for racing never ended and she enjoyed following NASCAR and local sprint car races. Mrs. Smith had many hobbies including, fishing, playing bingo and the slots, bowling in various leagues throughout York, baking cookies, and making cookies and crafts. Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Daniel L. Smith and Michael J. and wife Beth Smith both of Dover; three daughters, Joannie D. and husband Keith Schade of Shrewsbury, Mary Jo and husband Todd Nace of Wrightsville, and Judy A. and husband Dean Thoman of Dover; 10 grandchildren, Amy, James, Danielle, Jennifer, Kayla, Matthew, Jonathan, Courtney, Jared, and Nicole; six great grandchildren, Hayden, McKenzie, Andrew, Alex, Blake, and Alyson; and a brother, Frederick E.
