Dorcas L. Transeau

Glenville, PA – On Friday, March 12, 2021, at the age of 94, Dorcas L. Sipe Transeau passed away peacefully and entered God’s eternal care surrounded by her adoring family at home. She was the wife of the late Robert Sipe, who passed in 1972, and Thomas Transeau, who departed in 1989. Born on March 18, 1926 in Spry, Dorcas was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Katie N. (Krout) Hamberger. A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted member of Trinity UCC and earlier, of Jefferson UCC. As a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorcas cherished her family and loved spending time with them. She lived her life simply, with quiet determination and grace, always demonstrating warmth, kindness, empathy, and patience. Dorcas relished the art of letter-writing, and corresponded regularly with so many distant friends, family, and homebound church members. She was a member of the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, where she assisted during their Dutch Supper fundraisers for many years. Dorcas worked countless hours as a dedicated volunteer for more than 25 years at the Cross Keys Village - The Brethren Home Community Stamp Project. She also served as a beloved weekly visitor within the Homewood at Plum Creek nursing home over the course of 20 years. Dorcas is survived by her daughter, Judy Steinke and husband, Steven of Glenville; two granddaughters, Kate and husband Ben of London, UK, and Emily and husband Nathan of Hanover; four great-grandchildren, Holden, Adelaide, Elliot and Evelyn, and sister, Gladys Eby. She was preceded in death by her son, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Sipe, as well as six brothers and two sisters. A Celebration of Life service and gathering will be planned for a later date at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hanover. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. of York will oversee the arrangements. Dorcas’ family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the staff members of Compassionate Care Hospice of Camp Hill, PA for their aid and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorcas’ name to Trinity United Church of Christ, 116 York Street, Hanover, PA 17331. Condolences may be sent on Heffnercare.com.
