RED LION- Donald R. Staley, 86, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Annabel J. Staley, who passed away on April 25, 2009. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 13, 2008 and renewed their vows on their 50th and 60th anniversaries. A celebration of life service will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2011 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with the Reverend David Tietje officiating. A visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. on Friday prior to the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Staley was born on October 16, 1925, a son of the late George F. and Gussie M. (Horn) Staley. Donald was a 1944 graduate of Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. He worked as a Superintendant for York Casket Co. for 38 years until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Staley was a member of the former Bittersville United Methodist Church and most recently attended St. John’s U.C.C.. Donald served our country for two years in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol during the Korean Conflict-Police Action. Mr. Staley was a life member of the NRA and a member of the Red Lion American Legion Post #543, Experimental Aircraft Association and the Hi-Fliars of York. He was an avid hunter and an airplane enthusiast. Mr. Staley is survived by nieces and nephews, Eleanor Shreve, Norma Matthews, Terrance Staley, Vicki Tomes, Lonnie Staley, Wayne Staley, Dean Staley and Craig Staley; and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George C. Staley and Mirl J. Staley. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s U.C.C. , 161 N. Main St., Red Lion, PA 17356.
