Donald R. O'Neil

MANCHESTER – Donald R. O’Neil, 62, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Bonnie J. (Seaks) O’Neil to whom he was married for 9 years on October 12, 2011. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Rev. Richard B. Starr officiating. Full military honors will be presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard prior to the service. A visitation will be held from 6-7:00 PM at the Funeral Chapel. Born March 10, 1949 in York, a son of the late Russell and Joanna O’Neil, he graduated from York Vo-Tech. Mr. O’Neil was a Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he was a jet airplane maintenance crew chief. Following his military service he worked as a rice farmer in Louisiana prior to moving to York. In York, Mr. O’Neil worked for Consolidated Freightways and later retired from the Defense Distribution Depot in Mechanicsburg in March of 2011. Don was an avid Native American archeologist and loved searching for Indian artifacts. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. In addition to his wife, Mr. O’Neil is survived by a stepson, Bobby L. Figdore of Red Lion; a stepdaughter, Lolita M. Figdore of Windsor; three step grandchildren, Mason and Morgann Figdore, and Marshall Black; and an uncle, Rory “Sonny” Huyett of Manchester.
