York—Donald Parke Smith, 87, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Doris E. (Flinchbaugh) Smith to whom he was married for 40 years. Born February 14, 1923 on the family farm in Springvale, he was a son of the late Parke E. and Bella (Kyle) Smith. Donald was widely known by many in York County for his high level of integrity, work ethic, and ability. He was a carpenter, maintenance mechanic, maintenance supervisor, residential and commercial remodeler, builder, developer and realtor. His former employers included Bendix Corp., Bears Dept. Store, Ammon R. Smith Chevrolet, Dale Realty Co., The York Housing Authority, and Brewery Products Co. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army 3rd Battalion, 5th Regiment, 71st division in France and Austria. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Red Lion. He was a member of the Red Lion American Legion Post #543, Red Lion Elks Lodge #1592, Red Lion Lodge #649 Free & Accepted Masons, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shrine Temple, Royal Order of Jestors, York County Shrine Club, Red Lion Scottish Rite Club, Victory Club, Outdoor Country Club and Penn State Nittany Lion Club. He loved salt water fishing and enjoyed many tournaments from Lewes, Delaware, Ocean City, MD, and Tilghman Island in the Chesapeake Bay. He also loved to travel and was an avid Penn State Football fan. A funeral service will be 2 pm, Friday, September 10, 2010 at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc, 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Charles W. Salisbury, officiating. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 pm, Friday, at the funeral chapel. Masonic rites by the Red Lion Masonic Lodge will be at 1:45 p.m. Burial will be held in Bethlehem Stonepile Cemetery with military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Smith is survived by a son Kent D. Smith and wife Michele of Dallastown, 5 daughters, Wendy E. Boyer and husband Ron of York, Janeen Heffner of Woodlands, TX, Linda Ciprich and husband George of Ames, IA, Kristy Kitching and husband John J. of Dallastown and Lori White and husband Jack of Burien, WA, 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, one sister, Norma Klunk and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 45 First Ave., Red Lion, PA 17356.
