DOVER- Donald L. Summerson, 85, died Friday, November 8, 2013 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Roma M. (Keegen) Summerson. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 1551 kenneth Road in York, with a visitation from 2-3 p.m. Full military honors will be provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Summerson was born in Sterling Run, Cameron County, PA on July 13, 1928, the son of the late Fred and Marie (Devling) Summerson. He retired from Voith Hydro in York. Mr. Summerson was a life member of Shiloh American Legion post 791, West York VFW post 8951, 40 & 8 Voiture #9, Viking Athletic Association, and Emporium Moose Lodge; a member of Voith Hydro 25 Year Club, May Hollow Sportsman’s Club, Sinnemahoning Sportsman’s Club, and Sterling Run Sportsman’s Club; He was the Adjutant for 20 years and past Commander of Shiloh American Legion. He was a three time Adjutant of the year for the state of PA. He was also a founding member of York County Veterans Honor Guard, in which he served until the past two years. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army in the Korean War. Mr. Summerson leaves his loving companion, Joanne Myers of York; three sons, Jeffery L. Summerson and his wife Constance of Connellsville; Terry W. Summerson and his wife Jill of Dubois; Kevin P. Summerson and his wife Claudia of York; two daughters, Marilee Dawn Ball and her husband Michael of Wellsville, Sherri Jo Denker and her husband, Ted of Perrysburg, Ohio; a step son, Jan Snyder of Georgia; a step daughter, Terri J. Kruger of Dover; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert “Jerry” Summerson of Emporium, Stephen J. Summerson of Emporium; a sister, Bibianna Park of Emporium. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Summerson and a sister, Linda Rees. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to York County Veterans Honor Guard, P.O. Box 712, Mount Wolf, PA 17347 or a charity of choice.
