SEVEN VALLEYS- Donald L. Smith, 88, of Springfield Township, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Phyllis M. “Sue” Smith, to whom he was married for 65 years. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on November 6, 2021 at Salem Christian Church, 24 Franklin Street, in Jacobus, with a visitation from 1-2 p.m. The service will be webcast live and can be viewed by searching Don’s obituary at Heffnercare.com His Pastor, The Reverend Kevin L. Becker will be officiating at the service. Burial will be private in Salem Union Cemetery in Jacobus. Don was born in York on August 1, 1933, the son of the late Bruce V. and Ethel R. (Glatfelter) Smith. He retired as the president of Smith Village in Jacobus after more than 30 years of service and was the Founder and CEO of Handygas Corporation in Seven Valleys. He was a 1951 graduate of William Penn High School. Don was a life member of Salem Christian Church in Jacobus. He was past president of the PA LP Gas Association, as well as a past state director of the National LP Gas association. He was an avid hunter and a Life member of the National Rifle Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Izaak Walton League. He loved taking care of his property, building puzzles, woodworking as well as designing and building equipment for Handygas. He was a private pilot and later traded his plane in for an RV and traveled the country, spending winters in Mesa AZ. Mr. Smith leaves two sons, Jeffrey L. Smith and his wife Tina of Craig, CO and Michael A. Smith and his wife Penny of Seven Valleys; a daughter, Monica Sue Smith of Seven Valleys; four grandchildren, Valerie, Randall, Jordan, and Megan; 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dallas Smith; a sister, Susan Hake; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Faith, a brother, Dale Smith, and a sister, Anna Mae Gerlach.
