Donald L. Don" Shoffner

YORK- Donald L. "Don" Shoffner, 61 died peacefully Thursday May 29, 2008 at his home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Mary A. (Helfrich) Shoffner. A funeral tribute service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with Rev. Richard B. Starr officiating. A viewing will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Don was born on May 3, 1947 in York, a son of the late Harvey and Elizabeth (Davis) Shoffner. He married Mary Helfrich on November 27, 1964. A self taught mechanic, he was employed for over 20 years with Rabbit Transit. Don belonged to the Wago Club in Mt. Wolf and the Teamster Local Union # 776. He enjoyed camping and belonged to Pequea Creek Campground in Lancaster. Don liked to go for rides in his golf cart and tease his grandchildren. Don was a NASCAR fan and the late Dale "The Intimidator" Earnhardt was his favorite driver. In addition to Mary, Don is survived by two sons, Donald Shoffner, Jr and his wife Kim of Manchester and Thomas Shoffner and his wife, Jeannie of York; two daughters, Lisa Kay Shoffner and her companion, Michael Howe of York, and Patricia Myers and her companion, David Altland of York; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren, a great granddaughter on the way; two brothers, Harvey Shoffner and his wife, Pat of Manchester and Michael Shoffner and his wife, Sandy of York; two sisters, Kay Byloff of York and Sandra Swartz and her husband, Terry of York; and many nieces and nephews. A brother, Wayne Shoffner precedes him in death.
