Donald L. Boyer

York—Donald L. Boyer, 76, died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at York Hospital. A Graveside Tribute Service will be 2 PM, Friday, May 2, 2014 at Suburban Memorial Gardens, 3875 Bull Rd, Dover with Certified Celebrant Betty Frey officiating. A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM, Thursday May 1st at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York. Born August 29, 1937 in York, he was a son of the late Charles R. Boyer, Sr., and Dorothy A. (Taylor) Boyer. He developed an interest in woodworking as a young boy, this later led him to his career as a carpenter. Over the years he worked for several local construction companies spending the last 11 years with Poole Construction as a finish carpenter until his retirement in 1999. He was a hard worker often taking side jobs building cabinets, welding and doing electrical work. An extremely skilled tradesman who designed and built his home, he also enjoyed watching polo games in Lancaster and served in the National Guard for 6 years. Mr. Boyer is survived by one son, Brian L. Boyer of York; two brothers, Charles and Richard Boyer; three good friends, Elsie Frigm, W. “Doc” Zimmerman and Donald Bupp and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce.
