Manchester—Donald L. Ayers, Sr., 91, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at his residence in Conewago Township. He was the husband of the late Gloria F. (Arnold) Ayers to whom he was married for 59 years.
A viewing will be held from 1:00-3:00PM, Sunday October 29, 2023 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York. A private burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
Born August 5, 1932 in York, he was the son of the late Sadie M. (Campbell) Miller and Oscar L. Ayers.
He worked with Schmidt & Ault Paper Company for 9 ½ years before his 29 year employment with McKay Chain Company where he worked as a machine operator until his retirement.
A United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War, he was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed taking walks and hiking. However, what he loved most was spending time with his family.
Mr. Ayers is survived by his daughter, Kathy S. Bair and her husband, David of Manchester; one grandson, Zachary David Bair; one brother, James Miller and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald L. Ayers, Jr., step father, John Miller; three brothers, William Miller, Levering Miller and John Miller and two sisters, Velma Resinger and Mary Fleming.
