Donald H. Lentz

YORK Donald H. Lentz, 85, passed into the loving arms of his Saviour this Saturday, November 6, 2010. He was the husband of D. Patricia (Gifford) Lentz to whom he was married for 64 years on August 10, 2010. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Rev. Dr. F. Christopher Anderson officiating. Full military honors will be presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Private burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. Born February 22, 1925 in York, a son of the late William H. and Mary E. (Alwine) Lentz, he was a 1943 graduate of West York High School and Hershey Junior College. Mr. Lentz was a retired contractor with Wm. H. Lentz and Sons/Go-Len-Co. and belonged to the Builders Assn. of York. Mr. Lentz was also instrumental in helping build and begin operation of the York Historical Museum. He was also a member of York County Heritage Trust, York YMCA, Dallastown American Legion Post 605, West York VFW Post 8951, and the Ballroom Dance Club of York. Mr. Lentz was active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 65 years and has received the Silver Beaver Award. He also served over 30 years on the York Halloween Parade Committee. Mr. Lentz also enjoyed playing in several drum corps bands in York and York County. He was a US Army veteran of WWII having served with the 147th Infantry in Emirau, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. In addition to his wife, Mr. Lentz is survived by a daughter, Sharon A. Heidlebaugh of York; a son, Scott B. Lentz of Edgewater, MD; three grandchildren, Tiffany M. Counts, Kristi L. Byerts, and Brian Lentz; and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce H. Lentz; and a brother, William P. Lentz. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to York VNA Hospice Services, 540 S. George St., York, PA 17403 or York YMCA, 90 N. Newberry St., York, PA 17404 or to Heidelberg United Church of Christ, 47 W. Philadelphia St., York, PA 17403.
