Donald G. Platts, Sr.

JACOBUS - Donald G. Platts, Sr., 80, died on Monday, February 20, 2012 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Ethel M. Platts who died on May 10, 2009. The couple had been married 57 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with Pastor Wendell Sweitzer and Pastor Randy S. Hughes officiating. Viewings will be 6-8 p.m. on Friday and 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Christ United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Platts was born on April 22, 1931 in York, a son of the late George W. and Minnie E. (Rouscher) Platts. Donald worked as a Navy Assembler for 27 years at Borg Warner until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Platts served our country for six years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and did four tours of duty in Frankfurt, Germany in the Armored Medical Unit. He was a member of the Elite 82nd Airborne Division, the First Infantry Division and the American Legion Post #403. Donald enjoyed spray painting cars, watching westerns and war movies and visiting with his brother and sister in law. He was also a member of the 25 year club of York International. Mr. Platts is survived by two sons, Donald G. Platts, Jr., and his wife, Gail of Jacobus and Kevin M. Platts of Dallastown; one stepson, David L. Bailey of Glen Rock; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd E. Platts and his wife, Leah of Dover. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Joseph S. Tracy; and a sister, Vivian E. Platts. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post #403, 4035 Manchester St., Glen Rock, PA 17327.
