MOUNT WOLF- Donald G. Benedict, Jr., 73, died on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Hospice and Community Care of Mt. Joy. He was the husband of Carolyn (Turner) Benedict, to whom he was married for 45 years. The couple wed on June 29, 1968. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with Pastor Marion Haynes-Weller officiating. Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Born on July 26, 1940 in York, he was the son of the late Donald G. and Vivian R. (Wineka) Benedict. Donald served our country in the U.S. Army and was in the grocery business all of his work life, much of it as a department manager until he retired in 2003. Donald was a member of Kreutz Creek Presbyterian Church. Known as a man of uncommon wisdom and selfless grace, Donald was a generous provider. He was a loving and devoted husband and a nurturing and encouraging father to a family that couldn’t have had more fun together. Family and friends alike treasured his wonderful sense of humor. Donald found his true gift as a grandfather and was lovingly referred to as “Walt Disney” in family circles because of his wonderful sense of joy and the boundless energy he had when entertaining the grandchildren that adored him. He was steadfast and true, honest and hardworking. He never wavered from doing the right thing and always provided a sense of security and love. Donald knew what was important in life - loving and nurturing his family. His innate wisdom served him well and has been a blessing to those with whom he shared it. Along with his wife Carolyn, Donald is survived by one son, Todd Benedict and his wife, Catharine and their children Anna, Christian and Evan of Landisville; two daughters, Elizabeth Kreft and her husband, Scott and their children Ella and Charles of Aldie, VA and Angela Benedict and her companion, Ronald Hummer and their children Ava and Benjamin of Lancaster; and one sister, Sandra Benedict of York.
