Donald C. Snare

Donald C. Snare, 75 years of age, of York, passed away on January 26, 2023, at the York Hospital.

He was born in Huntingdon, and moved to Greencastle, after graduating from Shippensburg University. Don was a high school social studies teacher in Greencastle-Antrim School District for thirty years and later worked as a bank teller at Wells Fargo. Growing up Don was a star baseball pitcher and played baseball and basketball throughout his high school and college years achieving long standing records in his baseball career. His proudest achievement was being dad.

He is survived by his two children, Daniel Snare and his wife Amelia Snare, of Catonsville, MD, and Camille Gou of Philadelphia. He was the unconditional, loving dad. He was thrilled to be the new grandpa to baby Jonah. He was the loving husband and best friend of wife, Barbara Snare. In addition to his wife and children and grandson, Don is survived by his brother, Robert Snare and sister-in-law, Sandy Snare of Bradenton, Florida. His surviving family includes his mother-in-law, Dolores Heimbaugh and three sisters-in-law, Sharon Heimbaugh, Penny Heimbaugh, and Tammy Heimbaugh. Along with the sisters-in-law is Sharon’s family with brother-in-law, Kendall Jones and niece, nephews, and spouses and Tammy’s boyfriend, Keith Largent. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Louise Snare of Huntingdon, and sister-in-law, Linda Snare.

Don cherished his family and the friendships of his high school buddies, his teacher friends, and his church family. He attended Yorkshire United Methodist Church and appreciated the ongoing friendships of his church family. Don had a quiet demeanor and a dry wit and remained a true friend with those around him. His dog, Rosa, was a loving companion.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00AM, Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Yorkshire Church, 125 Edgewood Rd, York. Officiating the service will be Pastor David Kominsky. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00PM, Monday January 30, 2023 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York and a visitation will be from 10:00-11:00AM, Tuesday at the  church. Burial will be held in Mt. Rose Cemetery.
