Donald C. 'Pete' Smith, Sr.

GLEN ROCK Donald C. Pete Smith, Sr., 83, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Rest Haven York. He was the husband of Catherine M. Smith to whom he was married for 19 years. He was also the husband of the late Phyllis J. (Seitz) Smith. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 1, 2011 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Betty Frey, Certified Celebrant officiating. Viewings will be held from 7-9:00 PM Thursday and 9-10:00 AM Friday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born March 19, 1928 in York a son of the late Charles and Ida (Kaltreider) Smith, he had worked for 30 years at Grim Brothers Trucking. Most recently he had worked part-time in the maintenance department at Peoples Bank. Pete had also worked for Glen-Gery Brick and Wayne Posey Plumbing. In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by five sons, Donald C. Sonny Smith, Jr. of Hellam, Keith A. and wife Deb Smith of Red Lion, Kenneth E. and wife Marion Smith of York, Michael J. and wife Robin Smith of Red Lion, and Craig S. and wife Wendy Smith of Wrightsville; two daughters, Joyce E. and husband Earl Shoff of Red Lion and Denise M. and husband Barry Ness of York; numerous step children; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Mae Stine of New Park and Blanche G. Johnson of Dallastown; a daughter in law, Darlene Y. Smith of New Bridgeville; and a son in law, Chad Noll of York. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles H. Smith; a daughter, Karen L. Noll; a grandson, Troy W. Smith; two brothers; and three sisters.
