MILTON - Donald A. Don Byerly, D.Ed., 75, died on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York. Don was born on July 13, 1935 in Lewisburg and was the son of the late Bright F. and Rachael A. (Ashton) Byerly. He was a 1953 graduate of Milton High School, Graduated Penn State University in 1957, obtained his Masters in Physical Chemistry at Villanova and received his doctorate at Nova University. On September 13, 1958, he married the former Mary C. (Coffman) who survives and celebrated 52 years as husband and wife. He was a science teacher and coach at Cheltenham High School, finished his teaching career as superintendent of Loyalsock Township Schools and retired in 1993, became appointed to the board of directors of West Milton State Bank on November 13, 1986, was appointed chairman of the West Milton State Bank & West Milton Bancorp, Inc. on April 16, 1992 and appointed President and CEO on December 20, 2001. He had owned and operated the Byerly Brothers Family Meat Markets, family farms and the Victoria House and Vics pub. He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church Milton, a 50 year member of the Masonic Temple and Life Member of Penn State Alumni Association. He loved his family most of all and enjoyed going to the businesses and talking with people, helping people at the bank, traveling to Key West and baseball. In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Jeff A. and Rhoda Byerly and Donald A. and Tina Byerly and one daughter and son-in-law; Mary Elizabeth and Philip Gajda, all of Lewisburg and seven grandchildren; Michael Byerly, Minda Byerly, Jessica Byerly, Jenny Byerly, Miranda Gajda, Philip Gajda and Alden Gajda. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother; Richard Byerly. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, 47 Walnut St., Milton, PA 17847 with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Robert Reed Van Deusen will officiate the services. Burial will follow in Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 352, Milton, PA 17847. Arrangements are being handled by The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton.
