Derril R. Smith, Sr.

LEWISBURG - Derril R. "Gabby" Smith, Sr., 73, died on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Derril was born on July 20, 1936 in Lewisburg and was the son of the late Foster J. and Lottie M. (Paul) Smith. He was married for 34 years to the late Arlene J. (Heimbach) Smith until her death in 1991. He was retired after 20 years service with Yorktowne Kitchens. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 370, Mifflinburg and Sugar Valley Social Club. Derril enjoyed hunting, gardening, watching old western movies, collecting and re furbishing old Ford tractors and traveling to Missouri. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Derril is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law; Derril R. and Lisa Smith, Jr. of Loganton, Albert F. and Vicki Smith and Allen W. and Tammy Smith, all of Lewisburg, and Terry M. and Denise Smith of Milmont, one daughter and son-in-law; Connie L. and David Leese of Hummelstown, sixteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one brother and sister-in-law; Elwood P. and Shirley Smith of Lewisburg. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers; William C. and Gene L. Smith. There will be a public viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton with the Masons conducting a service at 8:45 p.m. There will also be another viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the funeral home with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Henry D. Sharrow from Phillippi, West Virginia will officiate the services. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.
