GENOA, WV Derek A. Bacon, 34, passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 27, 2010 at his home.A celebration of life tribute service will be held for immediate family and close friends of Derek at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with the Rev. Robert S. Edmundson officiating. All other friends of the family are welcome to share their condolences at 3:00 PM Thursday at the home of Cindy and Marlyn Bacon, 1759 Snyder Rd., Red Lion.Born January 24, 1976 in York a son of Louise E. (Trout) and husband Randy Brunstetter of Etters and Marlyn L. and wife Cindy (Eckert) Bacon of Red Lion, he was a 1994 graduate of Red Lion Area High School. Derek was a fullback on Red Lion High Schools County Championship football team in 1993 and also had played on the high school baseball team. He also played baseball for both Conrads and Windsor in the Susquehanna League. Along with sports, Derek enjoyed hunting and being in the outdoors, watching ice hockey, playing the guitar, and spending time with his friends.In addition to his parents, Derek is survived by a sister, Melanie L. and husband Matthew Porter and their daughters, Zella and Nina of Lynnwood, Wash., two stepbrothers, Jeston J. and wife Karen Bowman and their son, Dylan of Craley and Josiah S. Brunstetter of Hughesville, PA; three stepsisters, Caryn M. and husband Travis Ellis of Red Lion, Marla L Brunstetter of Hughesville, and Amanda B. Brunstetter of Bloomsburg, PA; grandparents, Betty and Leon Trout of Brogue, Vernard and Doris Bacon of Brogue, and Ruth and Edward Eckert of New Oxford, PA; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and close friends in both Red Lion and West Virginia.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to establish a college fund for Dereks nieces, Zella and Nina Porter. Contributions should be made out to Marlyn L. Bacon, 1759 Snyder Rd., Red Lion, PA 17356.
