Debra Jean Smith

NORTH YORK – Debra Jean (Haines) Smith, 70, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022 at her home. She was the wife of Scott T. Smith to whom she celebrated 40 years of marriage on August 6, 2022.

A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 PM Sunday at the Funeral Chapel. Debra’s Tribute Service will be webcast on her obituary page at www.HeffnerCare.com

Born July 8, 1952 in York, a daughter of the late Harold and Betty (Adams) Haines, she was a 1970 graduate of Central York High School. Mrs. Smith had worked at both York Bank & Trust and Wonder Years Daycare prior to her marriage. She was very active in North York Borough, having served as a councilwoman, liaison to Northern Region Police Dept., and volunteering on numerous committees. Debra was also a member of Liberty Fire Co. and Messiah United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Alan M. and wife Melissa Kearney of York; a stepson, Jeffrey Smith of FL; two granddaughters, Olivia Kearney of York and Alexis and husband Jake Hogan of Joppatowne, MD; two great grandsons, Elwood and Arthur Hogan; a sister, Nancy and husband Dennis Brunk of York; and nieces and nephews.
