Deborah L. Hindman

YORK- Deborah L. Hindman, 71, died on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at York Hospital. She was the wife of John B. Shelly to whom she was together for 27 years.

A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with Certified Celebrant Amy Favorito officiating. A visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.

Born on December 18, 1952 in Swindon, England, she was a daughter of the late Richard M. Hindman, Sr. and the late Maud (Markley) Rupp. She was a 1970 graduate of Dallastown High School and a 1971 graduate of Empire Beauty School. Deborah was a cosmetologist for Changes and Halo Hair Salons in Mechanicsburg and later worked for George’s Hair Salon in West York until retiring in 2013. She also worked part time for 20 years at OTW as a hostess.

Deborah was a member of the Shiloh American Legion Post 791 Auxiliary. She loved traveling, especially to her home in New Port Richey, FL in the winter and also loved art shows, craft shows, flea markets and gardening.

Along with her husband, John, Deborah is survived by her step daughter, Gayle Luckenbaugh and her husband, Scott of York; three step brothers, David Rupp and his wife, Debbie of York, Richard Rush and his wife, Denise of San Jose, CA and William Rupp of Hilton Head, SC; two step sisters, Barbara Maletesta of San Jose, CA and Pam Mosebach of Stewartstown; and her cat, Skippy. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Hindman; and step brother, Thomas Rupp.
