Shrewsbury—Dean R. Hersey, 86, died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Shrewsbury Lutheran Home. He was the husband of the late Mina A. (Seitz) Hersey. A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Cross Roads United Methodist Church, 6881 Church Rd, Felton, with his pastor, the Rev. Michael G. Trimmer, officiating. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Stewartstown Cemetery. Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hersey was born November 25, 1922 in Stewartstown, a son of the late Roland and Margaret (Hammond) Hersey. In 1940 he graduated from Stewartstown High School. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II as a Gunner's Mate 3rd Class on an LST (Landing Ship Tank). During his service he participated in 5 invasions, including Leyte Gulf and Okinawa. He owned and operated a farm in the Felton area for 60 years and was a member of Cross Roads United Methodist Church. Mr. Hersey is survived by one son, Jeffrey D. Hersey and his wife, Linda, of Felton, one grandson, Brad A. Hersey and his wife, Kjrsten, of Crofton, MD, one great-grandson, Grayson Dean Hersey, one brother, Richard L. Hersey of Red Lion, one sister Olive Williamson, of Harrisburg and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Cross Roads United Methodist Church, Current Expense Account, 13059 Cross Roads Ave., Felton, Pa 17322.
