WINDSOR- Dawn M. (Oberdorff) Bortner Hawkes, 80, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at her home after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. She was the wife of Dale Hawkes, Sr. and the late Gerald Bortner. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, with Pastor Steven A. Schmuck officiating. A viewing will be held from 2-3 PM prior to service. Burial will be private in Windsor Cemetery. Born May 10, 1937 in Lower Windsor Township, Dawn was a daughter of the late Samuel and Elsie (Tyson) Oberdorff. She worked in manufacturing for 34 years until her retirement from ACCO in York. She attended Emanuel United Church of Christ in Windsor. Dawn enjoyed spending time in the mountains and Tennessee with friends and family. Along with her husband, Dale, Mrs. Hawkes is survived by two sons, Keith Bortner of Windsor and Kevin Bortner of Windsor; a daughter, Kathy Arnold and her husband Butch of Windsor; five step-children; several grandchildren including Travis Arnold; a brother, Sam Oberdorff; six sisters, Nancy Oberdorff, Mary Graham, Sally Spyker, Jane Anderson, Susan Anderson, and Jean Myers, and her three lifelong friends, Gloria, Helen and Irene. In addition to her parents and first husband, Dawn was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Schmuck and Jack Williams, and two sisters, Carolyn Miller and Maddie Sydor.
