David R. Pickel

YORK- David R. Pickel, 73, formerly of Easton, PA., passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 7, 2008. He was the loving husband of Patience A. (Smith) Pickel. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2008 at Covenant Moravian Church, 901 Cape Horn Rd., York, PA 17402. Interment will be at a later date in Easton Heights Cemetery, Easton, PA. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is handling arrangements. Born July 13, 1935 in Easton, PA, a son to the late Harold and Victoria (Warren) Pickel. He was employed with steamfitters local 420 out of Philadelphia for 46 years. Mr. Pickel was a member for Covenant Moravian Church in York, PA for ten years. He was a 1954 graduate of Easton High School. Mr. Pickel was a member of the Master Gardner Extension Program, Muddy Creek Chapter of trout unlimited, and enjoyed fishing and gardening. David was a US Navy veteran and spent four years as a Machinist Mate. Mr. Pickel is survived by two daughters, Diane P. Plappert of York and Karen A. and husband Dan Sides of New Freedom; four grandchildren, Garrett Milchling, Victoria Milchling, Benjamin Plappert, and Greta Plappert; two step grandchildren, Jesse Sides and Lauren Sides; a brother Charles and wife Harriet Pickel of Roxanne, DE; a sister, Barbara and husband Dick Young of Las Vegas, NE; numerous wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Pickel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Moravian Church, 901 Cape Horn Rd., York, PA 17402.
