David R. Filson, Jr.

FELTON--David R. Filson Jr., 86, passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 at his residence in E. Hopewell Township. He was the husband of the late Anna E. (Read) Filson whom he married June 8, 1957. A Celebration of Life Tribute will be private at the convenience of the family. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be held in Guinston United Presbyterian Cemetery. Born July 28, 1934 in Pennsburg, he was a son of the late David R. Filson Sr., and Agnes M. (Harding) Filson. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was employed by Philadelphia Electric Company at Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station as a nuclear reactor operator for many years until his retirement in 1989. Following his retirement from Philadelphia Electric Company he worked as a consultant for nuclear power plants. A Free & Accepted Mason, he was a member and Past Master of Red Lion Masonic Lodge #649 and a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon and Shriners. He was also a member of Guinston Presbyterian Church and loved traveling with his wife and family. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed primitive camping and hunting, especially with his muzzleloader. Most of all, he was dedicated to his family and cherished the time he spent with them. Mr. Filson is survived by 1 son, David R. Filson III; 5 daughters, Erika J. Kovacevic and husband, Michael, Nadine M. Ruth, Deborah A. Thompson and husband, William, Diane M. Girken and husband, Timothy and JoAnna L. Lentz and husband, Steven; 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Donald Filson and Charles Filson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, Justin D. Thompson and Dayna E. Girken; son-in-law, Jeffrey E. Ruth and 1 brother, George Filson.
