Dover—David L. Sharp, Jr., 73, died Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Mary W. (Smith) Sharp. The couple celebrated 53 years of marriage on May 23rd. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 AM, Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York. A viewing will be held from 9-11 AM, Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Born June 9, 1941 in York, he was a son of the late David L .Sharp, Sr., and Elma R. “Betty” (Gotwalt) Sharp. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He was employed as a Deputy Sheriff with the York County Sheriff’s Department for 19 years until his retirement in 2004. In addition to his career at the Sheriff’s Department, he also operated his own business as a tax preparer in Dover for 39 years and worked numerous security jobs including the York Fair Concerts. A member of the National Rifle Association and Starview Fish and Game, he also loved traveling with his family to the beach and going to the mountains in Clinton County. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sharp is also survived by 2 sons, Raymond R. Sharp and wife, Lori of Dover and David A. Sharp and wife, Tracy of Dover; 2 daughters, Crystal R. Yeager and husband, Chuck of Dover and Andrea K. Fleegal and husband, Kenneth of Dover; 10 grandchildren, Ray, Symphonie, Matthew, Chazz, Heather, Anthony, Victoria, Charlie, Bradley and Alyssa; 6 great grandchildren, Hannah, Dylan, Coltan, Phoenix, Nathan and Isabella; 1 brother, John Sharp of York; 2 sisters, Gale Beck of Dover and Belinda Painter of York and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy David Sharp and a sister, Anna Shearer. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 924 N. Colonial Ave, York, Pa 17403 or American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603.
