David J Neff

RED LION- David J. Neff, 91, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 at York Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Betty Lou (Taylor) Neff for 61 wonderful years. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Bethlehem Stonepile United Methodist Church, 250 Bethlehem Church Road, Red Lion, with his Pastor, The Reverend Thomas R. Osenbach officiating. Viewings will be held Tuesday, June 7, from 6-8 PM and Wednesday from 10-11 AM at the church. Burial will be in Bethlehem Stonepile United Methodist Church Cemetery. Full military detail will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, is in charge of arrangements. Born March 5, 1925 in Red Lion, David was a son of the late James L. and Rosa Etta (Knisely) Neff. He worked as a mechanical engineer at Caterpillar Inc. for 31 years until his retirement in 1983. David was an avid farmer, beekeeper and fisherman for quite some time. Mr. Neff was a devoted Christian who lived to serve The Lord and was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Stonepile United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Red Lion American Legion Post 543, the York County Heritage Trust, the York County Beekeeper’s Association, The Gideon’s International, Red Lion Masonic Lodge #649, the Harrisburg Consistory, and The American Society for Mechanical Engineers. David served on the Windsor Township board of supervisors and as director of both the Bethlehem Cemetery Association and the Susquehanna Mariners. Mr. Neff proudly served our country as a Maritime Merchant Marine during World War II and in the United States Army during the Korean War. In addition to his wife, Betty, Mr. Neff is survived by two sons, Tracy D. Neff and his wife Tracey of Mt. Wolf and Carey W. Neff and his wife Karen of Lancaster; a daughter, Amy N. Glock and her husband Thomas of Red Lion; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Glock, Zachary Neff, Ryan Neff, Haden Glock, Aaron Neff, Sarah Neff, Abby Baker and Trisha Baker; and a twin sister, Dorcas J. Schneider of York. Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by three sisters, Sadie Runkle, Ruth Taylor, Esther Tome, and an infant brother, James. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Stonepile United Methodist Church, 250 Bethlehem Church Road, Red Lion, PA 17356 or to The Gideon’s International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.
