YORK - David E. Chronister, 87, of York Township, died Friday evening, January 1, 2010, at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton Ohio while visiting family for the holidays. He was the devoted husband of Ruth A. (Miller) Chronister with whom he celebrated a 64th wedding anniversary on July 28, 2009. Viewings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Fairview Church of the Brethren, 1873 New Fairview Church Rd., York. A service to celebrate Mr. Chronister's life will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with his pastors, Paul Bentzel and Dale Markey, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Chronister was born November 30, 1922, in York Township and remained a life-long resident of the community. He was the son of the late Earl J. and Mabel (Markey) Chronister. He began his career as a truck farmer selling produce at Central Market in York, but soon learned the electrical trade and worked as an electrician with his brother's business, Chronister Electric, for more than 50 years until retiring in 2001. He was a member of New Fairview Church of the Brethren and the Keystone Carnival Glass Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and enjoyed spending time in Potter County where he was a member of the Wild Boy Rod & Gun Club and the East Fork Sportsmen's Club. He was also a member of the Izaak Walton League and the NRA. He was a loyal NASCAR fan who enjoyed seeing anyone driving a Ford beat Jeff Gordon. Along with his sons, he also enjoyed attending Penn State Football and area high school basketball games and since 1961 made it to almost every Pennsylvania State High School Basketball Championship game in Hershey. What he cherished most, however, was that he could enjoy all of his passions along with his family. In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Chronister leaves his two sons, Ronald Chronister and his wife, Donna of Mechanicsburg and James Chronister and his wife, Karen of Hollansburg, Ohio; four grandchildren, Andrea Klinedinst, Lisabeth Mazel, Kirt Chronister and Shannon Collins; and eight great grandchildren Matthew, Jonathan, Benjamin, Aiden, Madelyn, Xander, Liam and Jackson; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Grim and a brother, Earl Chronister, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to New Fairview Church of the Brethren, 1873 New Fairview Church Rd., York, PA 17402.
