David A. Wingert

RED LION - David A. Wingert, 48, died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at York Hospital. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with the Rev. Steven Schmuck officiating. A visitation will be held from 6-9:00 PM Tuesday and 9-10:00 AM Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Paul's (Lebanon) Lutheran Cemetery with full military honors presented by the US Marine Corps. Born May 13, 1959 in North Tonawanda, NY a son of Charlotte [Jungier] Wingert of North Tonawanda and the late Douglas Wingert, he was a 1977 graduate of North Tonawanda High School. Immediately following high school, Dave enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he retired as a Master Sergeant after 20 years. During his military service he earned numerous commendation and meritorious medals and participated in a Combat Tour during Operation Desert Storm. Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, he spent the next 10 years as a police officer with Red Lion Borough Police Department and its successor York Area Regional Police Dept. During his law enforcement career he earned Police Officer of the Year in 1998 with Red Lion Borough; and also earned a Chief's Commendation, a Letter of Commendation, Service Award, and the Optimist's Officer of the Year Award with York Area Regional Police. Officer Wingert attended Red Lion Bible Church and was a member of Hellam VFW and Fraternal Order of Police. In addition to his mother, Officer Wingert is survived by two sons, David A. Wingert of Red Lion and Dylan A. Wingert of Mount Wolf; their mother, Joann Wingert of Mount Wolf; his fianc裬 Crystal A. Wiland and her daughters, Ronay and Randi Wiland all of Felton; two brothers, Duane and wife Ann Marie Wingert and Darren and wife Karen Wingert all of North Tonawanda; a sister, Darlene and husband Michael King of North Tonawanda; a uncle, Roger Jungier; a aunt, Kathy Jungier; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to York Cancer Patient Help Fund, 25 Monument Rd., Suite 194, York, PA 17403.
