WILLIAMSPORT - Dave Saul Harrison, aged 83, a lifetime resident of Williamsport, Pennsylvania and a winter resident of Pompano Beach, Florida for the last 27 years, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Gatehouse Hospice in Williamsport, Pennsylvania with family at his side. He was the loving husband of Rheta Weisberger Harrison. The couple married November 11, 1956 and had 52 happy years together. Dave was born on July 22, 1925 in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Samuel and Rebecca Wittan Harrison. He served his country with honor and valor as a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the European Theatre in the 91st Chemical Mortar Battalion as a Forward Observer. Dave fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received two bronze stars and other commendations for his military service. After the war he attended Dickenson Law School until called back to his family's business, Harrison Brothers Meat Packing Plant, where he assumed the responsibilities of Vice President until his retirement. Dave was a member of B'nai B'rith and The Ohev Sholom Synagogue. Dave was a dedicated husband to the love of his life, wife Rheta of over 52 years. He was a committed father to his five children never stopping at being their role model and mentor. He is survived by his wife Rheta, his children Wynne Harrison and husband Dr. Shawn Dygola of Skokie, Illinois, Brett Harrison of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Samuel Harrison of San Francisco, California, Zaq Harrison and wife Lauren Heiblum Harrison of Ranaana, Israel, Juli Harrison Bell and her husband Dr. Dean Bell of Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by nine grandchildren with whom he had a special place in his heart and was very active in their lives. They are: Malkaya Bell, Qeshet Harrison, Chanan Bell, Eyal Harrison, Baraq Harrison, Liore Dygola, Ronia Bell, Margea Dygola, and Yair Bell. He also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents Rebecca and Samuel, his siblings: Benjamin Harrison, Mitchell Harrison, Janis Harrison Brumberg, Roslyn Harrison, Arthur Harrison, Mildred Harrison Meyers and Morton Harrison. The funeral service for Dave Harrison will be at 1 PM, Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira Street, Williamsport, Pennsylvania with his spiritual leader Rabbi Mac Portal officiating. Burial will follow in Ohev Sholom Cemetery. In keeping with Jewish tradition, there will be no viewing and no flowers. Upon conclusion of the internment a full traditional Shiva mourning period and daily services at the family's residence will be observed.
