Danielle Raye Schaefer

RED LION - Danielle Raye Schaefer, 17, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008 at M.S. Hershey Medical Center. She was the daughter of Jeffrey E. and Lori J. (Grim) Schaefer. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, November 24, 2008 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with her pastor, The Rev. Patrick J. Cox officiating. Viewings will be held from 2-5:00 PM Sunday and 1-2:00 PM Monday at the Funeral Home. Born January 7, 1991 in York, Danielle was a 12th grade A.P. and Honor student at Red Lion Area High School. Her future plans involved acceptance into University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and planned to participate on the Division 1 Univ. of Pittsburgh swim team. Her academic achievements include National Honor Society, 1st in class her junior year, was currently 2nd in her senior class, and US Achievement Academy Mathematics Award. In addition to her academic awards, Danielle was a nationally ranked swimmer competing with York YMCA Aquatic Club and formerly with North Baltimore Aquatic Club. She was a USA Swimming Scholastic All American and had been ranked in the State of Maryland Top 5 swimmers for years. During her time away from studying and swimming, she enjoyed baking; reading; going to the beach and sailing with her father; and finding the most daring rides at Knoebels Grove and other amusement parks. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, LCMS. In addition to her parents, Danielle is survived by a sister, Courtney M. Schaefer at home; maternal grandparents, Gerald and Shirley Grim of Red Lion; paternal grandfather, Ralph E. Schaefer of York; two aunts, Lisa A. Ohrum and Melia J. Chang; three uncles, Mark L. Grim, Troy A. Schaefer, and Todd E. Schaefer; and two cousins, Nicole Grim and Melanie Schaefer. She was preceded in death her paternal grandmother, Martha Ann Schaefer.
