DALLASTOWN - Daniel Lee "Red" Jones, 91, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Doris Mae (Baker) Jones with whom he celebrated a 63rd wedding anniversary on March 10th. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 8th at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with the Rev. Lawrence A. Cunnings, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Dallastown officiating. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The service will begin with military honors presented by the Dallastown American Legion Post #605. Mr. Jones was born November 22, 1916, in Baltimore. He was the son of the late Carroll K. and Emma C. (Redmond) Jones. He retired in 1987 as a Foreman in the Shipping Department of Gichner Mobile Systems after 30 years of service. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Dallastown American Legion Post #605; the Red Lion VFW Post #1446; and the Moose Lodge. He was an avid Baltimore Oriole fan and also enjoyed following horse racing. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Savage, MD, where he was baptized. In addition to his wife, Mr. Jones leaves three daughters, Ruth Ann Wiles of St. Petersburg, FL, Dawna Lee Smeltzer and husband, John of Red Lion, and Kim Louise Day of York; two sons, Rodney Carroll Jones of St. Petersburg, FL, and Dwight William Jones of Laurel, MD; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a number of siblings. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dallastown American Legion Post, 57 W. Main St., Dallastown, PA 17313 or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, 120 Wall Street, New York, NY 10005-4001.
