Daniel J. "Dan" Berger

Berger, Daniel J. "Dan", 58 of Windsor, passed away January 12, 2016 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Melissa (Kauffman) Berger. Born July 27, 1957 in Johnstown, he was a son of Eugene and Agnes (Palus) Berger of Johnstown. In addition to his wife, Dan is also survived by his mother, Agnes Berger of Johnstown; brothers James Berger, married to Celeste (Suchko), North Huntington; and Richard Berger, Johnstown, a sister Maria Kordell, married to Donald B. Kordell, Johnstown, his step-father-in-law George Gavigan and sisters-in-law Lisa Kochenour, married to Robert, Lewisberry, and Karen Fore, married to Steven, Carlise. Dan was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Berger, sister-in-law Rita Berger (Coleman), wife of Richard; father-in-law Robert Kauffman and mother-in-law Robyn Gavigan (Kelly). He is also survived by a niece Sara Berger and nephews James S. Berger and Robert Berger. Dan was a 1975 graduate of Bishop McCort High School, Johnstown. After graduating, he joined the US Air Force, which is where he received his training in his passion of electronics engineering. After being honorably discharged in 1981, he began his career working with electronics, most recently being employed by Gichner Shelter Systems, Dallastown. Dan loved listening to music and playing the guitar. He was a big Beatle's fan and was also an avid Steeler and NASCAR fan. Dan enjoyed spending time looking for train track, especially with his brother, sister and brother-in-law. He was always happy and made everyone around him smile. He had a huge heart and was very generous to his family. Dan loved Melissa "Goosee" and spending time with her as he had done for many years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. There will be no viewing. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM, Friday, January 29, 2016 at Francis Ozog Funeral Home, Inc., 710 Broad Street, Johnstown, PA 15906. Family and friends will be received following the service from 11:30 AM-1:00 PM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Clement's Church, Johnstown, at the convenience of the family.
