YORK - Damenica M. “Mamie” (Barbaro) Faistenhammer, 92, of York Township, died Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Country Meadows at Leader Heights. She was the wife of Ludwig “Lou” Faistenhammer, Jr. The couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on June 7, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 1014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Rd. in York. Father James Menkhus will be officiating at the service. There will be a viewing Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion and a visitation from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Mrs. Faistenhammer was born in Olean, New York on January 19, 1922, the daughter of the late Ralph and Archangela (Palumbo) Barbaro. Mrs. Faistenhammer was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in York. As an active Army wife for 30 years she volunteered as a gray lady at local medical clinics and supported soldier’s family members during military deployments. Along with her husband, Mrs. Faistenhammer leaves a son, Col. William Faistenhammer and his wife Linda of Waynesboro, VA; two daughters, Josephine “Joie” Shue and her husband James of York, and Mari Akers and her husband Stanley of Evergreen, CO; five grandchildren, Matthew Shue, Christine McManamon, William Faistenhammer, Emily Akers, and Bradley Akers; a step granddaughter, Mattie Gilday; 6 great grandchildren; and a brother John Barbaro of Lancaster, NY. She was preceded in death by six siblings. She was an avid donor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and was recognized for being a consistent donor over the past 30 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
