Dale Ross Anderson

Dale Ross Anderson, 75, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on October 28, 2023 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA.

A viewing will be held from 11:00-12:00PM on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Beaver Urich Funeral Home, Inc., 305 W. Front Street, Lewisberry; with a private graveside service to follow at 1:00 PM at Cross Roads Cemetery in Lewisberry with his brother, David Anderson, officiating.

Born at home on October 5, 1948 in New Market, PA, he was a son to the late Vance O. Anderson and Viola (Zeigler) Anderson.

Dale is survived by four brothers, Dean R. (Linda) Anderson of York, Dr. Dennis R. (Corinne) Anderson of Simpsonville, SC, David R. (Janet) Anderson of Lewisberry, and Doyle R. (Stephanie) Anderson of Lewisberry; seven nieces and nephews; as well as twelve great-nieces and great-nephews

Although he was developmentally challenged, Dale was a savant in the areas of dates and directions. He could accurately provide the birthday and anniversary dates for each member of his family and their spouses through three generations. His ability to remember detailed directions from one location to another was amazing. In fact, he was known as Mr. GPS by his family and friends.

Following the deaths of his parents, Dale lived in several group homes. His longest and final placement was in a group home near Hershey, where he was fortunate to be under the care of Merakey, USA. Dale loved the staff and his housemates at “Redstone” and referred to them as his second family. He was known as the peacemaker in the home. One of his favorite activities each week was dinner at the Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant. He not only looked forward to the excursion to the restaurant, but also to the leftovers that would follow later in the week.

Dale attended LifePoint Church near Harrisburg where he immensely enjoyed the services. He especially liked to follow the progress of the building fund.

Dale’s family would like to thank everyone who cared for him during the years after his parents died. The staff at Redstone provided a safe and loving atmosphere where Dale truly enjoyed his life. The patience and devotion to his care will not be forgotten. It’s hard to adequately express our appreciation to Jasmine, Dale’s Supervisor, who seemed to instinctively understand him, along with her staff at Redstone, attending to all of his needs. A special thank-you to those at Merakey, USA and CMU, who were faithfully and efficiently managing the details of Dale’s life.

Last of all, we extend our appreciation to the medical staff at Penn State Hershey, who cared for Dale at the end of his earthly life. We are very grateful for your efforts to provide the best care possible to our loved one and for the thoughtfulness shown to our family during this difficult time.

Memorial donations may be made to the LifePoint Church, 7733 Hillcrest Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17112.
