YOR K- Dale R. McCoy, 83, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Center. He was the husband of Gladys E. (Forry) McCoy to whom he was married over 60 years. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, with his Pastor, The Reverend Dr. Greg Seckman officiating. A viewing will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born June 6, 1931 in Red Lion, Dale was a son of the late Lester L. and Beatrice (Keesey) McCoy. He worked as a mason and co-founded Witmer & McCoy Inc. Mr. McCoy was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed life and was a man of many talents. He built paddleboats, he sailed down the Delaware River 180 miles, hiked part of the Appalachia Trail, and loved hunting and fishing, and tennis. After his retirement Dale took up wood carving which proved to be a special niche for him. . He was a member of the York Carvers, the Conewago Carvers and the Lancaster Carvers. He won numerous awards nationally and in Canada for his sculptures. He carved statues of everything from animals to civil war statues, and although he was very gifted, Dale remained a humble, generous, sensitive man who loved giving to others. In addition to his wife, Gladys, Mr. McCoy is survived by two sons, Steve McCoy of York and Craig McCoy of York; a daughter, Cindy McCoy of New Jersey; and two sisters, Joyce Brown and her husband Edwin of Shrewsbury and Joan Tyson and her husband John of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Along with his parents, Dale was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene D. McCoy, Donald E. McCoy, and Glenn A. McCoy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 311 Haines Road, York, PA 17402 or to the SPCA, 3159 North Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406.
