YORK- Dale Lee Alwine, 74, died on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at his residence. He was the companion of Dorothy L. Madonna for the past 45 years. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Greenmount Cemetery, 721 Carlisle Ave., York, PA 17404. A funeral cortege will meet at the entrance of the cemetery at 9:45 a.m. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Born on June 13, 1944 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Alvin A. and Julia (Gingrich) Alwine. He was a 1962 graduate of Dallastown High School. Dale was the owner and operator of Lee Alwine Ornamental Ironworks for 50 years until his retirement in 2015. He also owned the Tasty Freeze on Richland Ave. for a few years and was involved in the property rental business for 30 years. Mr. Alwine was a member of the Hawk Gunning Club, Victory Athletic Club, Vikings AA and the 13th Ward Political Club. Dale was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed sprint car racing, deep sea fishing and ice cream. Along with his companion, Dorothy, Dale is survived by his son, Steven Alwine (Steven K. Kohler) of York; daughter, Felicia L. Gettle (Gregory) of York; three grandchildren, Alexis, Olivia and Harrison Gettle; brother, Michael Alwine of Palm Springs, CA; and two sisters, Gale Edwards of Palm Springs, CA and Julie Zimmerman (Bruce) of Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sharon Railsback and Sandra Kinneman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406.
