YORK-Dale L. Shelley, 88, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010 at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Geraldine S. (Stambaugh) Shelley to whom he was married for 64 years on November 30, 1946. A celebration of life service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Messiah United Methodist Church, 1300 North Beaver Street, York, PA, 17404, with his pastor, the Rev. W. Michael Langford, Sr. officiating. A visitation will be held 11:30-1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with a flag folding provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Shelley was born November 20, 1922 in Chanceford Twp. a son of the late Leroy and Annie (Sheckenbaugh) Shelley. He was a former machine shop teacher for York County School of Technical until his retirement in 1984. He was also a former Federal Government Inspector of Defense Contracts from 1948-1978. He was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran serving his country during WWII. Mr. Shelley was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church. He was also a member of N.O.P Alumni, VFW Post # 8951, and NAEFE Civil Service. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and hunting when he was younger; and in his later years he enjoyed watching TV especially sports and political commentary shows as well as putting together jigsaw puzzles. In addition to his wife, Mr. Shelley is survived by two daughters, Linda S. French and husband, Dwight K. of Silver Spring, MD, and Karen E. Hoffman and husband, Michael E. of York; two grandchildren, Jennifer L. Brown and husband, Joshua D. and Juan, L. French; three great grandchildren, Nolan and Audrey French, and Sophia Brown; four sisters, Alma Snyder and husband, George of York, Doris Kerchner of Lancaster, Norma Miller and husband, William of Red Lion, and Janice Walker and husband, David of Dallastown; a granddaughter in law, Marla D. French; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Russell K. French. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Messiah United Methodist Church.
