DOVER - Curtis O. Hoover, 76, passed away Monday, April 13, 2009 at Manor Care - South. He was the husband of Marilyn M. (Weigle) Hoover to whom he was married for 52 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Rev. Chuck Sprenkle officiating. Viewings will be held from 10-12:00 Noon Saturday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with full military rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born September 5, 1932 in Manchester Twp. a son of the late Oscar Hoover and the late Bertha M. (Grim) Straw, he worked 32 years at Lyon Metal Products. Following his work at Lyon, he worked at Cole Steel and later retired from the maintenance department for the County of York. He also worked part-time at Daniel May machine shop. In addition to his work career, Mr. Hoover spent countless hours cultivating his farm. He would often be found "out and about" on the farm, whether it was gardening, butchering, or using his smokehouse to provide samples to those he loved. Curtis enjoyed spending time with his two grandsons, gathering with family and friends, public sales, playing cards, and working at the York Fair. He was a member of Shiloh American Legion, Post 791. Mr. Hoover was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and then continued his service with the PA National Guard. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hoover is survived by a daughter, Tonya S. Young and husband Don of Dallastown; two grandsons, Justin Curtis Ranieri and Tyler Ray Ranieri; two brothers, Russell Grim of Mt. Wolf and Robert Straw of York; a sister, Delores Harbold of York; and a large group of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Hoover; and four sisters, Gladys Strausbaugh, Florence Hartman, Betty Shetron, and Beatrice Clark. Memorial contributions may be made to York Cancer Patient Help Fund, 25 Monument Rd., Suite 194, York, PA 17403. The family of Curtis O. Hoover wishes to sincerely express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Manor Care South, Bethany Unit and the Oncology Dept. at York Hospital. Your patience and caring comforted our family during this challenging time of our lives. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Melissa from VNA for her unending attention, thoughtfulness, and willingness to go above and beyond her call of duty.
