Curtis B. Barney" Strausbaugh, D.O.

YORK - Curtis B. "Barney" Strausbaugh, D.O., passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret T. (Wolfe) Strausbaugh to whom he was married for 58 years on September 9, 2008. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 5:00 PM Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. A viewing will be held from 3-5:00 PM Sunday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial with Full Military Rites will be held at 10:00 AM Monday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Born January 22, 1924 in York a son of the late Curtis B. and Daisy (Trone) Strausbaugh, he was a 1941 graduate of West York High School, 1948 graduate of York Junior College, 1950 graduate of Gettysburg College, and earned his osteopathic degree in 1954 from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and interned at the former West Side Hospital. He was very proud of the fact that he was able to put himself through college and medical school by working nights and weekends. Dr. Strausbaugh had his own private practice in West York from 1954-1977 and was a staff physician at Memorial Hospital. Following his retirement from private practice, he continued as a physician in the US Air Force till 1979. He was a life member of American Osteopathic Assoc.; Hellam VFW Post 7045; and was a member of Reliance Fire Co. and West Manchester Twp. Farmers and Sportsman's Assoc. In addition to medicine, Dr. Strausbaugh loved fishing, hunting, camping in his RV, crabbing at the beach, and enjoyed eating seafood and raising his Weimaraner dogs. He was a dedicated husband who thoroughly enjoyed his wife's company in work and life. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of WWII. In addition to his wife, Dr. Strausbaugh is survived by a sister in law, Billie Shultz of York; a brother in law, Dale Marsteller of York; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Leukemia Society of America, 800 Corporate Circle, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17109.
