Cordell L. Dawson

RED LION – Cordell “Abe” L. Dawson, 84, passed peacefully on Saturday, September 7, 2024. He was the adopted son of the late William and Jennie (Alwine) Dawson. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, JoAnn (Haines) Dawson; his daughters, Cheryl Dashler and her husband Joseph, Sr., and Carla Dawson; and his grandchildren, Amanda Dashler, Joseph Dashler, Jr. and his wife Gaby, and Justin Dashler and his wife Haley; and one great granddaughter, Adalynne Dashler. Mr. Dawson was preceded in death by his infant son, Craig Dawson.

Cordell was a graduate of Central York followed by service in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by ACCO and had several other jobs. He was an active member of Bethlehem Stonepile Church for over 60 years. He volunteered at the Arc of York and Adams Counties especially at Camp Pennwood, Special Olympics and the former Bethlehem Stonepile Covenant Food Pantry, and he was also a member of the Gideons. He enjoyed fishing and was a life member of Starview Sportsman’s Association. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Cordell will be held 10:00 AM on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Bethlehem Stonepile Church, 250 Bethlehem Church Road, Red Lion, PA 17356 with Pastor Bryant Holtzapple and long-time friend Reverend Doctor Kathy Harvey Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Stonepile Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
