Colby M. Hewitt

York—Colby M. Hewitt, 28, passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 peacefully in his sleep. Colby was born July 12, 1989. Even during birth he was stubborn. He was the son of Michael E. Hewitt of York and Carla L. (Eisenhart) Hewitt of Manchester. He was employed as a mechanical contractor with J.E. Smith, Inc. He had finally found a job that wasn’t boring for him. Colby was a jack of all trades and could learn to do anything. As a small boy he would take electronics apart, just to see how they worked. At one point, in his early childhood, he flushed a soap pump dispenser down the toilet and was overjoyed when his punishment was to take the toilet apart with dad to fix it. He watched and studied internet videos and had a wealth of knowledge few of us could ever dare to dream about. Every employer that was ever questioned regarding Colby’s work ethic would deem him a “man we wish we could duplicate.” Colby enjoyed camping, going to the beach, working on cars with his Dad and hunting. Most of all he loved spending with his family, especially his two sons, Parker and Malachi and Nephew, Robert. The three boys had no greater hero than Colby. He was a member of Living Word Community Church and within the last two years, Colby’s love of God kept him afloat even on his darkest of days. He also loved pizza and burgers, and his face would light up at the mention of ordering stuffed crust from Pizza Hut. Colby was a genuinely good man and would do anything for anyone that asked him. He made many acquaintances and friends in his short life. Those that knew Colby best knew he struggled with the demons of alcohol and drug abuse that eventually claimed his life. He was a friend and listening ear to many in the rooms of AA and Celebrate Recovery. In addition to his parents, Colby is survived by two sons, Parker L. Hewitt, 7 and Malachi J. Hewitt, 5; one sister, Courtney L. Hewitt and a nephew, Robert J. McAnnaney, Jr., 11 as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A Celebration of Life Service will be 7PM, Friday, August 25, 2017 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York with the Rev. Aaron Kunce officiating. A viewing will be held from 6-7PM, Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Colby M. Hewitt Memorial Fund to benefit his sons Parker and Malachi at any M and T bank branch location or online at https://www.gofundme.com/colby-m-hewitt-memorial-fund.
