SPRINGFIELD-Cleo (Bailey) Gates, 90, of Springfield, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Horatio "Si" Gates who passed away on October 13, 2003. The couple had sixty years together before Si's death. Family and friends are welcome to call from 1:00-1:45 PM on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. The Rebekahs will hold a service to honor their sister, Cleo, at 1:45 PM at the funeral home, with the funeral to follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Daniel Graham of Springfield Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Harkness Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Cleo was born August 15, 1917, in Laquin, Bradford County, PA. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Carrie (Knuper) Bailey. Cleo was co-owner of the Gates Clover Farm Store in Springfield. She attended the Springfield Baptist Church and was a member of the church's Ladies Aid. Cleo was a founding member of the Springfield Rebekahs, was an active member for over 50 years, was honored with the Metal of Chivalry, and was a past District Deputy. Cleo is survived by her daughters: Cheryl L. (Thomas E.) Guthrie and Nancy G. (Clifford) Geer, both of Springfield; her grandchildren: Greg and Kelly Guthrie, Carrie Geer, Matthew and Gretchen Geer, Andrew Geer; her great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Evan Geer; her sister, Phyllis Bailey, of Monroeton, and several nieces and nephews. Cleo was preceded in death by her husband, Si; two brothers and two sisters.
