YORK- Claude W. Stabley, 86, of York, died Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at Manor Care Health Services- Dallastown. He was the husband of the late Dolores G. (Hilt) Stabley. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Rev. Kate Seitz Bortner officiating. A visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be provided by the York Co. Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Stabley was born in Felton on January 4, 1921, a son of the late John A. and Effie Mae (Brown) Stabley. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army during WWII as a rifleman. Claude was decorated with an Eastern-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantrymen Badge, Good Conduct Ribbon, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, and American Theatre Ribbon. He married Dolores G. Hilt on February 9, 1946. Claude was employed with Guy Hobbs Inc. as a furniture finisher for over 30 years but retired in 1986 from York County Nursing Home. He belonged to American Legion Post# 605 and Veterans of Foreign War Post #1446. Claude enjoyed Country Western music and played guitar until a war injury prevented him. Claude is survived by one son, Claude W. Stabley, II and his wife, Deborah of Dover; a daughter, Sharon M. Cope and her husband, Stephen of York; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a sister, Almeda A. Miller and her husband, Curvin of Dallastown; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are two sisters and two brothers.
