Clarence L. Young

LOCK HAVEN - Clarence L. Young, 91, of McElhattan passed away, Friday, January 8, 2016 at Susque View. He was born October 24, 1924 in Mill Hall a son of Albert and Rebecca (Allen) Young. Clarence was married on October 24, 1942 to the former Miriam E. Shadle who died February 27, 2009. They celebrated 66 years of marriage together. He worked for the former Hammermill Paper Company for 42 years. Clarence was a member of the McElhattan United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and mowing grass. He was a member of the American Legion. Clarence served in the Navy during World War II. Surviving are three daughters Miriam “Marie” Pletcher and Violet E. (Rodney) Englert both of McElhattan and Tara L. Young of Kannapolis, NC. Six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is survived by four brothers Wilber Young of Avis, Robert Young of Jersey Shore, James Young and Leroy Young both of McElhattan, two sisters Ruth Swartz of Florida and Bonnie Cornell of McElhattan. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a son Clarence L. Young, Jr. in 1970 and a daughter Rebecca C. Shadle in 2000 also five brothers and three sisters. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall with the Rev. Bruce Wallace officiating. Friends and relatives will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Dunnstown Cemetery with military honors by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard.
