YORK Clarence E. Keiper, 84, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Autumn House West. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Oerman) Keiper who died in 2000. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 7, 2011 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2121 Roosevelt Ave., York with his pastor, The Rev. Skip Nizinski officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-11:00 AM Friday at the Church. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery with full military rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born December 10, 1926 in Palmerton, Carbon Co., a son of the late Charles S. and Mabel (Meixel) Keiper; he was a 1951 graduate of Stephen S. Palmer High School, a graduate of Penn State University where he was active with Sigma Phi Sigma fraternity, and earned his masters degree from Temple University. Mr. Keiper also studied at Rutgers Univ., Bowling Green Univ., and the former Western Maryland University. He was a retired mathematics teacher with York City Schools for more than 30 years and also taught at York College of Pennsylvania. Mr. Keiper had been a founding member and officer of Covenant of Care, a provider of resident homes for mentally disabled; served 10 years on the board of The ARC of York Co.; and was a member of Theos and Yorktowne Senior Center. He was an avid bridge player and earned gold, silver, and bronze medals in the PA Senior Games. Clarence was also a Penn State fan and enjoyed Civil War history. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Keiper is survived by two daughters, Claudia A. and husband Vincent Phillips of Mechanicsburg and Rebecca E. and husband Willard Unkenholz of Laurel, MD; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Adrienne, and Carolyn Phillips and Timothy, Christian, and Luidmila Unkenholz. He was preceded in death by a son, William T. Keiper; two brothers, Stanley and Carl Keiper; and a sister, Hazel Hunsicker.
